Boat Dock Information

Boat Dock Spaces

The city has about 166 Boat Dock Spaces around the lake. There is still a wait list for Dock Spaces, but it has decreased tremendously over the years. When you become a resident, you may sign up to be added to the wait list. Once you obtain a space it is yours for as long as you are a resident, but you must renew it every year. You need not renew your spot on the waiting list every year. The city maintains a boat ramp next to the Oakland County Boat Club on Ferndale. You must purchase a key for $50.00 to unlock the chain at the ramp, and you are responsible to see that it is locked after each time you open it. The charge for a boat dock space is set by City Council and increases yearly. If you are sharing your space with another resident that resident must pay the same fee. The payment you pay for the boat dock includes a park tag, boat ramp key and a sports tag.  All watercrafts at the dock space must have a current year sticker issued by the city.

The Deadline for submitting a dock license application and all information is March 1st by 4:00 p.m. This will give residents that are offered a dock space from the wait list ample time to make necessary arrangements for the season.  Per policy, at least one watercraft must be docked or moored at each dock space by June 1.

Legal Lake Level is set at 928.7 during the summer months. During the winter months, the level drops to 927.5.

Boat Dock Wait List

The Boat Dock Wait List is the beginning process to obtaining a City Boat Dock Space.  Once the form has been filled out and the fee submitted your name will go on the list. This initial fee is nonrefundable.  You will be contacted once your name has reached the top of the list.  Once you have been contacted you have three options.  First, if you choose to take a boat dock, you will have to submit the appropriate forms and fees.  Your second option is to NOT take a spot.  At this time a new form and fee must be submitted in order to stay on the list.  Your name will then go to the bottom of the list, and you will have to wait until your name comes to the top again to decide what step you take at that time.  The final option you have is to have your name removed from the list.

If you have already submitted your form and fee, please view the list below to see your placement.  A hard copy of the same list is located at City Hall.

One- Day Boat Launch Pass

A guest ramp pass will be issued to a resident (only), for the purpose of allowing a specific guest to use the boat ramp. The cost for the guest pass is $50.00 for one day, for one watercraft. If a guest places their boat in the water and leaves it in the water for more than one day, another guest pass will be required to use the ramp when the watercraft is removed. You are not charged based on how long the watercraft is in the water, just how many days you use the ramp. To obtain a guest pass, a resident must fill out a very short form indicating the type of watercraft along with the MC# that will be using our boat ramp. Guest ramp passes may be picked up at the city hall during the hours of 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Monday - Thursday. The pass is good for only one watercraft for one day.
