Household Hazardous Waste

The City of Sylvan Lake currently participates with West Bloomfield Township in their Household Hazardous (HHW) Waste drop-off in the Spring and Fall.  Watch for newsbytes and check the website calendar for details.  Click here for a list of acceptable items. However, you may find the following list helpful to dispose of items on a more regular basis.

Paint

Latex paint can be dried to a solid and thrown out with your regular trash. It must be completely dried out. You can use kitty litter to speed up this process, or there is also a product at hardware/home improvement stores called waste paint hardener that can be added.

Motor oil

Check with local oil change facilities or discount auto stores.

Automotive batteries

Check with discount auto stores or the store you purchased a new battery from.

Computer, televisions and other computer and electronic equipment
