Ice Cream Social, the City will celebrate its opening of the new Community
Center.

Primary
Election Vote on August 5th at the new Community Center. New voter registration cards have been sent
in the mail. Vote for party candidates
to go on the November ballot and for an Oakland County ballot proposal for the
Detroit Zoo.
Goose Round-up 93 eggs were collected in April and 47 geese were collected during the Goose Round-up on June 19th. There were years that over 200 geese were rounded up. It keeps the parks and water so much cleaner. Thank you Al Payson for taking charge of this annual round-up for so many years! Thank you Mike Polmear, Gerry Powers, and Beverly Island residents Frank Chaffee, Shelly Eddy, and Lori Barnett for helping with this program.
Recycling Everyone should
participate in recycling. If you recycle correctly,
you should have more recycling than trash!
The cost of recycling is included as part of your normal trash collection. Bins are available at City Hall. However, it is not necessary to use these
recycling bins. You can use a plastic
“storage” container or even a cardboard box. Make sure it is marked “RECYCLING”
so the contents do not end up with the regular trash. Recycling flyers on materials and guidelines are available at
City Hall or on the City website. If
you have newspapers, magazines, and ads, tie them securely with a string or
place them in a brown paper grocery bag.
Telephone books do not have to be bundled. Plastic jugs, bottles, glass bottles, and jars must be washed
out. Bottles marked with a “1” or “2”
on the bottom and plastic containers marked with a “3 through 7” will be
accepted along with steel and tin cans,
pots and pans, and plastic bags. ALL
items need to be cleaned. If any
recycling is dirty, it will be thrown out with the regular trash.
Water Bills Your water bills have been sent out.
During the summer billing periods, we discount your sewage usage based
on what you used over the winter. This
allows you to water your lawn and/or flowers without have to pay for the sewage
fee. For example, if you used 5,000
gallons during the winter (average) and now you are using 25,000 gallons for
this period, you will be charged for the 25,000 gallons of water used, but only
for 5,000 gallons for sewer.
Home & Garden Tour Note Cards | $5 / for a set of
8 The note cards designed by our
very own Eric Wiegand were a huge hit at the recent Tour. We are selling a set of eight, which
includes two of each of the four designs, or a set of eight that are all the
same. “Thank You” cards are available
for just five dollars per set. These
are of great quality and great original art to send a note or thank you card,
or to use as invitations to a special event.
**To
purchase, please email Midge Davidson at mdavidson@centraldata.com,
or call the Tour Hotline at 248-615-6296.
Bikers and Walkers Please remember when walking to walk on the left
side of the street (facing traffic) and bikers should ride on the right side of
the street (with traffic). If you plan
to be riding your bike or to walk at night, please wear reflective clothing so
that drivers can clearly see you. Parents, please make your children aware of
these laws. Everyone should stop at all
stop signs (walkers and bikers), including on the trail.
The Oakland County Boat Club The OCBC would like to thank all the residents of
Sylvan Lake for their generous donations that made the fireworks display one of
the best in recent history. The OCBC
also wants to thank City Hall, the city officials, and residents for their time
and efforts that are required before and after the fireworks display. Sylvan Lake and the OCBC look forward to
working together again so this mutually beneficial event continues for many years
to come.
